We are sad to announce the passing of Doug Hamby, former manager of WOMI and WBKR. Glenn Funeral Home sent us this information.

B. Douglas Hamby, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on April 22, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Dawson Springs to the late Curt and C. Rudell Hamby.

Douglas was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, an Eagle Scout and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was in the radio business and had served as President of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. Douglas’s career included General Management of WOMI, the establishment of WBKR, ownership of WHRZ in Hopkins and Webster Counties and management of Kentucky Wesleyan College’s radio station, WKWC.

He was a longtime member and former elder at First Presbyterian Church.  Douglas was active in the community and had belonged to many civic organizations through the years.

He enjoyed woodworking, photography, hunting, fishing, golfing and for several years he and Kay made many long trips on their Honda Goldwing motorcycle.

Douglas is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn S. “Kay” Hamby; a daughter, Pam Legate (Perry) of Owensboro; a son, Mark Douglas of Dixon, KY; grandchildren, Brian Hamby (Ashley), Mark Hamby, (Ashley), Angel Kenslow (Ken), Michelle  and Joshua Legate and great grandchildren, Eli, Logan, Morgan, Mattie and Mallory Hamby.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 1302 Frederica Street Owensboro, KY 42301.
