Tuesday June 5 at 1pm, Daviess County Sheriff Keith Cain will escort 8 World War 2 Veterans on a long overdue trip. The group will be traveling to Washington D.C. for a day trip to the War Memorials.

For these men who fought for freedom almost 70 years ago this will be their first trip to our Nation's Capitol. The flights are part of a program designed to give those veterans who can, a trip to view not only the World War II memorial but Arlington Cemetary, The Tomb of the Unknown's, and the other War Memorials in Washington. Due to the advanced age of the vets the trips are escorted by locals such as Sheriff Cain.

1490 WOMI listeners are encouraged to give those making the trip a hero's send-off. They will be departing from the War Memorial at the Sportscenter at 1 p.m. Tuesday June 5 and arriving home at 11 a.m. Thursdy June 7. Cain and other organizers are hoping for a big crowd for the send off as well are the return.  "These hero's need to know how much they mean to every citizen. We are losing our WWII vets at around 1200 per day. We must honor their service while they are with us", said Cain himself a former Marine.

On the Joe Lowe Morning Show Monday morning , June 4, Sheriff Cain talked about the D.C. visit , the program that makes it happen and what he expects to experience while on the trip. We have posted that interview here:
