Man killed, wife injured in Pulaski Co. house boat accident

BURNSIDE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a boating accident in Pulaski County claimed the life of a man and injured his wife.

According to WKYT-TV, the accident happened Saturday night at the Burnside Marina on Lake Cumberland.

Officials say the couple was trying to tie up their house boat when the woman, Cheryl Zuver, injured her ankle. They say her husband, 58-year-old David Zuver, tried to help her, and apparently got caught between the house boat and the bank, killing him.

The woman's condition has not been released. The incident remains under investigation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Archdiocese of Louisville says a local pastor has been placed on administrative leave amid an investigation into child pornography.

The Courier-Journal reports Father Stephen A. Pohl of St. Margaret Mary Parish was put on leave after the Archdiocese learned of the investigation.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Cecelia Price says a cyber-crimes task force is conducting the investigation.

Price didn't provide any other details, except that she's not aware of any other disciplinary issues involving Pohl, who was ordained in 1985 and has been at the parish since 2008.

Parishioners were to be notified over the weekend.

FATAL FIRE

Authorities: House fire claims life of Harlan County woman

HAZARD, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say a house fire in Harlan County claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman.

According to WYMT-TV, the fire occurred early Sunday morning in the Stanfill community.

Authorities were told a woman was inside the house at the time of the fire.

They said the woman, who has not been identified, was unable to make it out of the home and was pronounced deceased by the Harlan County deputy coroner.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

MANUFACTURING EXPANSION

Trifecta Steel investing $3 million in Owensboro facility

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — Trifecta Steel plans to invest $3 million and add about 30 workers over the next three years at a steel fabrication and welding facility in Owensboro.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports Trifecta is a new manufacturing company that designs and fabricates steel building components. It recently purchased an existing 17,000-square-foot facility and plans to add 21,600 square feet by November.

Trifecta Steel is an outgrowth of Owensboro-based Kentucky Building Systems.

Friday's announcement comes on the heels of preliminary approval of tax incentives of up to $345,000 to the company by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.

Madison Silvert, president and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp., says Owensboro will also be asked to provide tax incentives.

BABYSITTER-SHOTS FIRED

56Sheriff: Baby sitter doesn't remember shooting at children

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) — The Whitley County sheriff says a woman who fired shots at two 8-year-old twins she was babysitting doesn't remember doing it.

WLEX-TV reports the children ran to a nearby house at about 11:15 p.m. last Sunday, saying their baby sitter had threated to kill them and fired shots.

Sheriff Colan Harrell says when a deputy arrived to investigate Lorie Cornett came to the door with a loaded and cocked pistol. Harrell says the gun had two spent cartridges, and three empty cartridges were found nearby.

Harrell says Cornett told the deputy she was on medication and drinking. She did not remember the children being with her.

She is charged with three counts of wanton endangerment and is free on bond. A phone number listed for Cornett was disconnected.

BUGGY CRASH

2 children, father injured in crash with buggy, cement mixer

LIBERTY, Ky. (AP) — Two children were injured after their family's horse-and-buggy collided with a cement truck in Casey County.

Volunteer firefighter Loren Martin tells WLEX-TV it was about 1 p.m. Friday, and he was working nearby when he heard the squeal of tires and "an awful thump, thump."

He rushed to the scene on state Route 910 where he says the horse-and-buggy had been carrying two young girls, a baby boy and their father.

Casey County Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle says the horse reared up at the approach of the cement mixer and went in front of it.

The two injured girls were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where they are doing well. The father suffered a fractured leg, and the baby was unhurt. The horse was killed.
