My Five Most Interesting Sites in Ohio County [PHOTOS]

This was really, really fun, and interesting. I thought I would do a little exploring around Ohio County, why not? And I brought along my cousin Alex for the impromptu road trip. He's harmless.

Here we go!

1. Dundee Goat

It's a good thing I had Alex with me, because he informed me the goat is actually a weather vane. I had no idea! I just thought there was an old goat statue stuck on top of an old Masonic Lodge. I also didn't know this...

2. Jerusalem Ridge and the Bill Monroe Homeplace

True story, I've never been to Jerusalem Ridge before. Bill Monroe's childhood home has been fully restored, the outside had a fresh coat of paint. We got a free tour from one of Monroe's last band members, Tom Ewing, who is now a caretaker at the home place. We found at least one piece in the house is original...the fireplace.

3. McHenry Mural 

I always forget about this one, because I don't go to McHenry a lot. This is just a mural painted on the side of an old store just outside the town limits. It's a great example of folk art and a labor of love.

4. Rochester Ferry, Locks, and Dam

On the very southeast side of Ohio Co. is Rochester and if you aren't careful, you'll run right into the Green River. It's just a short ride on the ferry to Butler Co. However, if you turn off, you'll run into the Rochester Dam and Locks.

It was fairly humid, so we knew the fish would be biting. It can be dangerous, but you are allowed to fish either right off the dam or on the rocks on the Butler Co. side.

5. Last Supper, various sculptures

This is really neat! About a mile or two as you start out Rochester Road, you'll see a very impressive life size recreation of Leonardo DaVinci's "The Last Supper" comprised of concrete sculptures. I thought this was the only one, nope, we found more.

The sculptures are the work of Donald Bray. It's not everyday you see something this unique, and it's just outside of Beaver Dam.
