Are you a Hancock County or Ohio County resident who is currently caring for a parent or another older adult? If so, the Green River Area Development District (GRADD) wants to provide you with assistance.

Presently, GRADD sponsors a caregiver support group meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., at Hillcrest Healthcare Center (3740 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro).

GRADD’s goal is to establish caregiver support groups in all seven counties across the region. They are currently in the process of starting up groups in both Hancock County and Ohio County and are seeking information from individuals who may be interested in participating.

Support groups provide education, training and information on available resources, while offering caregivers a well-deserved opportunity for respite and socialization. Participants can also discover solutions to their own challenges through discussions with guest speakers and fellow caregivers.

“Most caregivers who participate in a support group find it very refreshing to meet others dealing with the same issues and struggling with the same emotions,” says GRADD family caregiver program coordinator Monie Sosh. “There is nothing like talking with other people who know where you are coming from and truly understand how you feel.”

If you are interested in joining the new Hancock County or Ohio County caregiver support groups, or the current Owensboro caregiver support group—or know of existing groups that may benefit from partnering with GRADD—please contact Monie Sosh at (270) 926-4433, (800) 928-9094, or moniesosh@gradd.com.
