ERLANGER, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky state auditor Adam Edelen plans to hold a summit in northern Kentucky to address corruption after a multitude of cases in the area.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that Edelen plans to speak with public and local elected leaders about how to catch the misuse of public funds.

The visit on Oct. 15 comes on the heels of at least four public officials in northern Kentucky cities being accused of misspending funds.

Edelen said the summit will aim to inform and brainstorm ways to catch fraud early.

SOUTHERN STORMS

Louisville authorities: 82 evacuated, boat rescues

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — An emergency management agency official for greater Louisville says 82 people had to be evacuated from homes hit by scattered flooding in Louisville and Jefferson County over the weekend.

Metro Safe Spokeswoman Jody Duncan says emergency workers safely removed people from homes and stranded cars late Saturday and early Sunday as waters rose waist-deep in some areas. There were no injuries.

She says nearly 6 inches of rain Saturday triggered the flooding. A storm front sweeping the nation's midsection is being blamed for heavy rains in the Louisville area that swamped underpasses and partly submerged some cars.

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — Officers with the Harlan City Police Department have a new accessory for their uniforms — a mobile video camera.

According to WYMT-TV, the device is worn near the center of an officer's chest and records audio and video for his or her entire shift. The information is downloaded to a computer at the end of the shift.

Police Chief Mike Thomas says the video is considered public record, which creates transparency for the public.

"The public knows we're not hiding anything; we're not covering anything up," said Thomas, adding that the video can also be used in court.

"It will help support to convict some people or it can be used to redeem some people. It goes both ways."

So far, Thomas said the cameras have recorded arrests, traffic stops and a suspect search.

HERITAGE AIRCRAFT

Restored plane moves to aviation park for display

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — The scene on Scottsville Road on a recent night resembled a parade for a returning hero, with a police escort accompanying the center of attention and curious onlookers waving and capturing the moment on their camera phones.

The procession was for the General Dynamics F-111, a restored fighter/bomber and tactical strike plane destined for display at the Aviation Heritage Park.

For its final taxi, the plane, also known as "Warhorse," set off from Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport and was towed by a tractor along Scottsville, Three Springs and Smallhouse roads into the park.

The F-111 aircraft entered service in 1967 with the U.S. Air Force and the fleet was retired in 1998. After retirement, the fleet of planes was stored at an Air Force base in Arizona, which is where aviation heritage park officials found the aircraft.
