The Owensboro Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau will again begin collecting Christmas Cards for Veterans in 2011. All cards collected will be distributed to veterans in senior living facilities and nursing homes.

School, civic, and church groups are encouraged to collect Christmas cards. Cards can be dropped off at the Convention & Visitors Bureau office at 215 E. 2nd Street during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Last year, over 1500 cards were collected and distributed to area veterans in 13 different facilities around Owensboro, as well as the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. This is the Convention & Visitors Bureau’s fifth year collecting cards.

Cards should be signed by group members or by individual names. The envelopes should be addressed to “Dear Service Member”, “Honored Veteran”, or “American Hero”, as each group prefers.

Karen Miller, Executive Director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau, said, “This is a great opportunity for the community to send Christmas cheer to our Veterans and remember them at this time of year.”

1490 WOMI promoted this program last year and is proud to be an avenue for "getting the word out". Church and Civic Groups, Scout Troups and Schools as well as individuals and families can participate. This is a great way to teach children about the joy of  positively impacting the lives of others.

The collection will last until December 15th. For additional information, please contact the Convention & Visitors Bureau at 270-926-1100.
