Whitesville Elementary goin Appalachia Head to Toe

Fifth-grade students at Whitesville Elementary School will welcome Barry Lanham and Randy Lanham in a presentation titled “Appalachia Head to Toe” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. The school is located at 9656 Kentucky 54. 

Randy Lanham will demonstrate some of the essential instruments from the tradition of Appalachian music, providing a brief history of the culture and music styles related to each instrument. Students will also have the opportunity to actually play the instruments. 

Once the students have learned the history of the music, Barry Lanham will introduce them to the history of dance and clogging in the Appalachian culture. The program will conclude with all students learning some simple clogging moves, putting them together into a historic dance.
