Youth Summit 2012: “Back to Reality” March 13th
The 14th Annual Youth Summit for area middle and high school students will be held at Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC) on Tuesday, March 13th from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Event sponsors include the Green River Area Development District (GRADD), Owensbo-ro Parks & Recreation, and KWC.
This year’s theme will be "Back to Reality." Ms. Tanya Fogle of Lexington will deliver the keynote address and share her inspirational story. Fogle starred on the 1981-82 Kentucky Wildcats SEC Championship women’s basketball team, be-fore a drug addiction and prison sentence altered the trajec-tory of her life.
She currently serves as a workforce reentry specialist with the Bluegrass Area Devel-opment District (BGADD) and is a member of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC), a grassroots organization advocating for social, economic and political justice.
The summit will feature a series of concurrent 30-minute breakout sessions throughout the day from which participants may choose. Also, the Owensboro Youth Council will present a skit about peer groups and "a teen’s reality."
"The Youth Summit will provide a unique opportunity for students to discuss important issues with their peers—with topics ranging from developing leadership skills to making college and career choices," said Jodi Rafferty, GRADD workforce development pro-gram planner.
Nearly 400 middle and high school students from across the region participated in last year’s event; and already this year, 18 schools in Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster counties have confirmed plans to attend.
