Apollo High School Hosting Dance Blue Sunday [VIDEO]

This coming Sunday students at Apollo High School will host the annual Dance Blue Marathon. In just six short years students have rallied together to raise over $160,000 for pediatric cancer research.

DanceBlue is a 24 hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon that was started at the University of Kentucky that benefits the Golden Matrix Fund which works to support cancer research at the Markey Cancer Center and social support at DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic.

Within twelve years, DanceBlue has raised over $10 million. Every year, over 100 campus organizations and 800 dancers help raise money to support the Golden Matrix Fund.

Apollo High School Beta club will be hosting its 6^th annual 8-hour mini-marathon to support UK’s DanceBlue. The mini-marathon will be held January 20, 2019, from 3-11pm in Apollo’s Gym. Due to the no-sitting, no-sleeping rule while at the marathon everyone will be dancing, playing games, and dedicating their time to the kids and families in the DanceBlue clinic. During each hour there is a different theme that the music and games will support. There will be an inspirational tent set up where students can fill out cards or make a goody bag to send to the children at Owensboro Health Hospital & patients at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center here in Owensboro. Food has been donated by local businesses for participants.

Apollo is the first high school on the western side of the state to host a mini-marathon in conjunction with UK. Apollo Alumni, current UK students, and KWC Alpha Omicron Pi sorority will be helping out on Sunday night.

Apollo’s DanceBlue Club has been working all year to spread the information and mission of DanceBlue to students from Apollo, College View and four local DCPS elementary schools: Burns, Deer Park, Sorgho, Southern Oaks, and Audubon. DanceBlue has not only become an Apollo event, but also a community event; Owensboro Catholic High School and the Academy of Young Leadershave are all participating in the marathon. Many local businesses have donated to our cause already!
