‘Beetlejuice 2′: Katy Perry Wants to Succeed Winona Ryder as Lydia
Katy Perry has thrown her hat in multiple rings -- her new single, "Roar," is off the charts, she appeared on 'SNL' a couple times (as both host and musical guest), she voiced Smurfette in 'The Smurfs' movies, and she's been vocal about wanting a role in the proposed 'Blade Runner 2.' Now, with 'Beetlejuice 2' under discussions, she already has her eye on a role.
Wednesday, Perry hosted a Q&A and acoustic mini-concert in Los Angeles ahead of her Hollywood Bowl show. Via HitFix, one fan asked what movies she'd like to star in, to which the pop star pointed out 'Beetlejuice 2' and Winona Ryder's old part of Lydia. She also threw out playing Rachael in a potential 'Blade Runner 2,' though she's been vocal about that character for some time.
Aside from her 'Smurfs' gigs and a couple stints on 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'Raising Hope,' we haven't seen Ms. Perry in a live-action feature film. Could she pull it off? At least we know she could wear the hell out of the extravagant gothic fashions Lydia was known for when Winona Ryder had the part in the original. In fact, watch her next concert getup be an homage to her.
It was recently revealed that Tim Burton is officially in talks with Warner Bros. to return to the director's seat for 'Beetlejuice 2,' and Michael Keaton (soon to be seen in the 'RoboCop' remake) is expected to return to his titular ghostly role. No plot points have been released yet -- we've still got some waiting to do, as the sequel won't even be Burton's next film -- so now is the time for Perry to plant the seeds in Burton's head, if she is really looking to fight for this part.
