Best Way To Get Crayon Out of An Entire Load of Dried Laundry
Have you ever had one of those OH MY LORD moments as a parent? I did this weekend when I realized I washed and dried an entire load of laundry with crayons.
MOM'S BIG LAUNDRY FAIL
This past weekend we ventured to Florida because I had to broadcast in PCB for work. We drove down a few days early and stayed at a friend's condo. The first morning the kids and I decided to go eat breakfast while my husband slept in. We when to a super cute little diner and the kids got crayons to color with. When we left the diner they decided to put the crayons in their pockets. You know where this is going right? Yep, the next day when I decided to do laundry as kids often do they forgot to take the crayons out of their pockets and I didn't think to check. I threw all the clothes in and washed and dried them like I normally do. I kept hearing a light banging against the dryer wall but thought it was a string or something so I let it continue. Imagine my surprise when I pulled the clothes out after drying to discover the crayons had melted all over every single piece of laundry. I'm not sure I have ever felt that feeling. I immediately ran to my phone and googled how to get crayons out of dried laundry. Here's what I found.
HOW TO GET CRAYON STAINS OUT OF DRIED LAUNDRY
Keep in mind the crayon was dried on the clothing. The first thing you need to do is scrap any thick pieces of crayon off the clothing. Next, gather all your recipe ingredients and most of which you probably have right in your kitchen.
STEP ONE:
Scrap the crayons. Some pieces of clothing will have more crayons on them than others. Grab a knife or your fingernail and pick off the excess.
STEP TWO:
Drop Dawn dish liquid on the larger spots and rub in. I also put a white washcloth with about half a cup of Dawn on it and threw it in with the clothes.
STEP THREE:
Sprinkle a cup of baking soda all over the load of laundry.
STEP FOUR:
Add half a cup of white vinegar all over the clothing. Once the vinegar hits the baking soda it will activate and bubble up. This actually helps to lift the stains.
Lastly, wash the clothes in hot water. All the clothes should come perfectly clean.
