Meet Eric Mack; he just finished eighth grade at Burns Middle School and he's accomplished a rarity. Mack earned a perfect score of 720 in math on the PSAT 8/9 test. I think I took a PSAT test when I was a sophomore, but I had no idea the test was given to any student not yet in high school.

So what is the PSAT 8/9 test? It's a standardized test that 8th and 9th graders take on a regular school day. That's an important fact since the SAT and the ACT are administered on a Saturday or a non-school day. It's the first test in the series of PSATs. The 8/9 tests a student's reading, writing, and math skills. The questions are grade-appropriate for grades 8 and 9. The test has an Advanced Placement section which lets a student know which advanced courses he or she might be ready to take. They are not sent to colleges, the real and final SAT test will be for college. And the test can be taken between September and April. Mack took the test this past March.
