Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club Hosting Operation Round-Up Fundraiser
Here at WBKR, we are excited to be teaming up with Old National Bank and the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club for an exciting fundraiser called Operation Round-Up! The event will take place this week- on Wednesday, September 16th and Thursday, September 17th. Here's how it's going to work:
All you have to do to donate is to drive through one of the three Old National Bank locations here in Owensboro. Those locations are as follows:
123 W. 4th Street, (downtown Owensboro)
1215 Southtown Boulevard (off South Frederica Street)
3230 Mt. Moriah Boulevard (off Highway 54)
Now, here's the really cool part. The Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club has set a fundraising goal of $15,000 for the two-day event. Making this goal a reality is getting boosted by the fact that a confidential donor has stepped forward to match the first $5000 raised! That's an incredibly generous gesture and we want to make sure that goal is reached.
It's also important to note that the club is asking for your donations to be made in honor of Donna Risley and Wanda Oldham, both of whom "were strong advocates of children and creating hope and opportunity in every youth."
All funds raised will be allocated to the newly established Learning Center at the Mike Horn Unit on Buckland Square here in Owensboro. That center was created as a direct result of the impact of COVID-19 had on childcare options for local families. Following discussions with the United Way, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and directors of various local youth organizations, "the of the Learning Center was born." The club was able to offer youth assistance with virtual learning and a safe space to learn while their parents are at work. In just the first week alone, the Learning Center had 22 students enrolled.
That number is expected to increase dramatically once schools enter their A/B schedules this week.
The Learning Center is just further proof of how the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls continues is commitment to the youth in our community In 2019, the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club served 3,241 youth ages 6-18 here in Daviess County.
So, this week, we're looking to you to help them continue that commitment. Operation Round-Up begins Wednesday!
