In February, I shared a story about Colt Graves, a Calhoun, Kentucky singer-songwriter who announced that he was gearing up for the release of a brand new solo single.  We previewed a sample of that single on 92.5 WBKR. Not only we were impressed with what we heard, our listeners were impressed as well.  There was, immediately after playing the preview on air and sharing it on our app and website, a lot of interest in Colt, his song and the official release date for "Lonesome Roads."

Well, it's time!  And, Wednesday, May 11th, 2022, marks the official release of the song, which was is billed as a multi genre-infused anthem that was inspired by a camping trip Colt took with his two boys and girlfriend to Wranglers Campground at Land Between the Lakes here in Kentucky.

Colt says that, during that trip, "Mother Nature didn't fully cooperate with their plans."  He said it rained most of their second day there.  So, he sat down, pulled out the guitar and wrote the chorus of the song, which includes the following lyrics: Lonesome roads are all I know. There ain't no sunshine or blue skies around me.

Colt says the song is "a nod towards overcoming challenges and feeling like you are trapped. Sometimes when you're going through a rough time you may think of your mind as a sort of prison."  It's this interpretation of the song that led to the inspiration behind the official "Lonesome Roads" video, which drops today as well.

Colt and his creative team decided to center the video around a prison break.  Colt's a huge fan of the movies O Brother Where Art Thou? and Blow, so he wanted to pay homage to the art direction in both with his video.

In case you're unfamiliar with those movies or need to reminder about the cinematography and style of each, here you go.

In fact, Colt admits, "If you have seen those movies you will be able to see a few little Easter eggs and will likely notice some similarities."

He adds that making his video for "Lonesome Roads" was really fun.  That video was directed by Taylor Graves, who owns Fall Back Films.  According to Colt, "It was unlike anything I had done before."

Colt credits incredible support from his friends and family for making the video for "Lonesome Roads".

He says, "Ultimately, I am super proud of what we were able to accomplish and I think the end result is something that me, my team and our community can be really proud of."

Time will tell and, well, it's time. It's May 11th, 2022 and the Calhoun Cowboy has officially arrived.
