When you choose to investigate abandoned places, you understand you're taking a risk. What one adventurer in an abandoned Missouri hospital didn't expect was to come face-to-face with a big squirrel.

I became curious about what had happened to the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, Missouri. It was built in 1835 and has a deep history of being used to house many different types of people in need. Sadly, it's been abandoned for decades. That's when I came across this interesting walkthrough by an urban explorer. As he walks through the doors, it doesn't take long for him to realize he's not alone. Ghost? No. Squirrel? YES.

I cast no stones against this dude. Getting surprised by a squirrel who's probably stashing a winter's worth of nuts inside this building isn't for the faint of heart.

Atlas Obscura shared some interesting history about the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty. One of them is an extremely creepy occupant that allegedly remains there:

The society, like other fraternal organizations, conducted secret rituals, and one of the most important ones was the initiation. A key symbol in this ceremony was a skeleton...a small room in the complex houses some interesting artifacts that the IOOF left behind, including “George”, the skeleton of an Odd Fellows member who died in the 1880s...

I've never met George and never plan to either.

It's worth noting that the buildings aren't supposed to be open to the public anymore. Perhaps this squirrel is the bouncer for the place now to scare potential invaders away.
