FBI Says Multiple Fake Active Shooter Calls to Missouri Schools
There is nothing more serious than a claim that there's an active shooter in a school. The FBI says that multiple calls were made today that said there were active shooters in Missouri schools and none of them were true.
The FBI in Kansas City made this announcement on Twitter today.
If you're not familiar with "swatting", Wikipedia defines it as "the act of fraudulently calling emergency services to another person's address". Incidents like this in the past have led to injuries and deaths of innocent people. The fact that this act was directed at a school could have been tragic.
KOMU in Columbia reported that two of the Missouri schools that were involved were in Kansas City. There is no confirmation that any other schools including the tri-state area were involved in any way. At this time, it appears that only Kansas City schools and a few in Kansas were involved. It's unknown if the calls originated from one person or multiple people.
