Free Drive-Thru Mutton Glutton Today in Downtown Owensboro
As you all know, the International Bar-B-Q Festival would have been this weekend in downtown Owensboro. However, this year's event was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing guidelines and restrictions on public gatherings. That said, the committee that stages the event annually came up with a unique idea to keep the spirit's festival alive. Later this morning, they're hosting the first ever Drive-Thru Mutton Glutton!
Starting at 11am, Saturday, May 9th, The International Bar-Q-Festival is teaming up with Ole South Barbeque for a Drive-Thru Mutton Glutton event, which will feature hundreds and hundreds of FREE mutton sandwiches served on a first come, first served basis. Here's how it will work.
The event will begin promptly this morning at 11am. Service will take place on Veterans Boulevard in downtown Owensboro. This is event is strictly drive-thru. Participants MUST remain in their vehicles and literally drive up for service. Volunteers and Ole South staff will be on site serving free mutton sandwiches, individual bags of chips and, just added, free Pepsi! There's a limit of one sandwich, one bag of chips and one soda per person. When you pull up to the service area, you'll be handed a sandwich for every person in your vehicle!
If you're interested in participating in the Drive-Thru Mutton Glutton, you will enter the line by turning onto Daviess Street by the RiverPark Center, then traveling west on Veterans Boulevard. Vehicles will exit the line at Frederica Street. Be sure to wave at WBKR's Barb Birgy! She will be in the WBKR van playing your favorite new country and celebrating the Drive-Thru Mutton Glutton with you.
Again, the free mutton sandwiches are served on a first come, first served basis and will continue while supplies last. Plus, the festival is making available the official International Bar-B-Q Festival event t-shirts. The shirts for this year's event were already printed. They'll now be a collector's item with the word CANCELED stamped on the back with the hashtag #OwensboroTogether. Shirts will be sold for $5 a piece.
