Fundraiser Set for Daviess County High School Coach Battling Cancer

Southern Lanes in Owensboro is hosting a bowling tournament and silent auction benefit for Byron Johnson. He's a devoted family man known as both a friend and longtime varsity bowling coach at Daviess County High School. He is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer, and you can help by registering for a fun evening of bowling.

I know this fight oh so well. In 2013 I had to watch my Dad battle lung cancer. It was one of the hardest times of my life. Especially, after he lost his fight that June. Nothing or nobody can ever replace your Dad. The Johnson family wants to help Byron get through this journey and conquer the beast. He spent a lot of time in the hospital last month and it has taken a toll, but his positive attitude is still on full display. As you can imagine, the medical bills are piling up and he should only focus on his health. The community is rallying to help make that possible. He has so many people praying for him.

STRIKE OUT CANCER FUNDRAISER AT SOUTHERN LANES

Gather your team and get ready to compete! Strike Out Cancer will happen on Sunday, January 15th, 2023 starting at 6:30 PM. $25 entry fee to help with the medical expenses while Byron continues to fight cancer. Many bowlers have pre-registered, but walk-ins will be welcomed. Pre-registration would be great if you'd like to sign up. Let's pack Southern Lanes in Owensboro!

BIG THINGS ARE PLANNED

Byron's son Tanner shared the fundraising news on social media.

I’m running this tournament as a fundraiser for my dad to help with some of his medical bills. Please let me know as far in advance as you can if you will be signing up.

Storm Bowling was kind enough to donate 2 FREE ball certificates for me to raffle off at this event so there will be not one but TWO bowling ball raffles that are good for any Storm, Roto Grip, or 900 Global bowling ball.

We will be doing a 50/50 ticket drawing for each game of the competition.

We are also doing a silent auction on many different items that have been donated. (If you would like to donate anything for the silent auction please reach out to me.)
