His voice was unique and his guitar playing ability was second to none. Singer-songwriter Glen Campbell has died. He was 81.

Campbell first gained recognition in the early 60's as a guitar session player in Los Angeles. He filled in for Beach Boy Brian Wilson and he played on the band's legendary Pet Sounds album. The Arkansas native's big breakthrough came in 1967 when released his cover of John Hartford's "Gentle on my Mind", three more hit singles followed including "Wichita Lineman" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Campbell won four Grammys the following year.

In 1969, Campbell co-starred on big screen with John Wayne in True Grit. The singer's biggest hit of his career came in 1975 with the with crossover smash "Rhinestone Cowboy". It was one of six songs released that year that topped both the Pop and Country charts.

In 2011, the singer announced he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. He performed one last time in November of 2012. The singer's farewell tour and his struggle with Alzheimer's was featured in the 2014 documentary, Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me. He released one final album this past June, an album of covers entitled Adios.
