Ladies and quite possibly Gents we are in the thick of deer hunting season.  It is a time of early alarm clocks and late-night dinners.  If you know you know because you're living it.

REAL CONFESSIONS AND QUESTIONS OF A DEER HUNTER'S WIFE

What does it actually mean to be a Deer Hunter's Wife?  Well, here's the deal you marry a deer hunter (man or woman) you are signing up to be practically single or alone a good 3-4 months out of the year.  Now, there are some pros and cons to this.  If you like alone time you are gonna get it.  When it's hunting season it is also football season for our youngest son so I basically fall into bed at night and reach over to see if my husband exists LOL!

During our first year of marriage he didn't really go hunting that much he stayed home because we were in the honeymoon stage and he was nurturing our relationship.  The next several years have been like a marathon to get the biggest and best deer around these parts.  It is actually fun and kind of sweet to see him light up when his phone goes off with a picture from his deer cam until it's not.  I mean you got a cute wife dude pay attention.

Your husband is gonna smell like pee or something unnecessary that doesn't make him come hither attractive.  Picture it, he's been gone all weekend and you're ready to get in some snuggle time (you know what I mean) and you can't help but notice he smells like a tree that's been marked by a German Shepherd.  Not really flipping any switches on I can tell you that.  Is anyone really turned on by the scent of pee (like has a deer really said spray that stuff on you and I'll come prancing out to be shot?)  I highly doubt it!

Deer cameras get on my nerves.  There I said it I feel like the weight of that 12-point buck my husband is searching for has been lifted off my shoulders.  Walk with me for a moment.  I'm not knocking hunting I promise.  It makes my man happy and he loves it.  It just drives me nuts that his phone dings or lights up every single freaking time something moves in the camera.  I mean couldn't there be a deer detection mode that it could be programmed to so it only goes off when a deer is in the lens?  I can't tell you how many times I've been unfortunately interrupted watching a movie, on date night, in conversation, among other things by that ding or light.  He can't just ignore it he has to jump and rush to the phone to see if it's the monster buck.  I think we can all agree for as much as those things cost they could up their mode game a little and get a DEER DETECTION ONLY button.

Speaking of cost- why in the world are hunting supplies so dang expensive?  People talk about women and shopping I don't spend in a year on clothes what my husband spends in four months on corn and cameras.  I have half a mind to buy a farm so we can plant and grow our own corn.   These deer eat better than most people.  I guess you gotta feed them if you want to eat them!

Don't think I'm bashing deer hunting I actually enjoy watching my husband get so excited.  I have learned a lot about my husband as a hunter.  He is dedicated.  He is definitely not a morning person but can be when needed, he is like a child on Christmas morning checking his deer cams, and the time in the woods is therapeutic to him as much as shopping, working out, or just taking a nap is to me.  He is appreciative that he gets that time in the trees.  One time he even took me.  Of course, it was the one and only time he took me ( I couldn't be quiet but it was a good time).

He did tell me it was his favorite hunt and that made me feel good even if it wasn't the truth but we did have a lot of fun.

I loved getting to learn all about what he does when he is away from me.

Our kids get super excited too.  Our youngest son, Tucker actually drew a picture of one of the things he wanted for Christmas and it was a picture of a big dead buck I almost spit my drink out when he told me.  He said, "Momma I want Daddy Doe (what he calls Joe) to get the biggest deer ever!"

Even though deer hunting isn't my thing it is my man's.  I love that he has found something he loves to pour his time into and the joy I see from him when he finally gets the deer he has been tracking for months is one of the best feelings in the world.

Husbands and maybe even wives (I know many of you hunt too or instead) remember, it is also a sacrifice for us.  You spend tons of time away from us, lots of hours in the stand, and often you come home only to check your deer cameras and don't check to see if we need to be tended to or the fact that we have kept the children alive and kept our home intact while you sat in peace.  Be attentive and intentional to your wife/husband just as you are to those deer.  And most important is being patient with your wife/husband on a daily as you are when you are sitting in the stand for the 14th day with no luck.

Just as it takes a village to raise children it takes the whole family to raise a deer hunter.  A supportive, loving, understanding, and patient family.  We're all in this together.

HAPPY HUNTING Y'ALL~

Kentucky's Nuisance Animals

A couple of these creatures would cross over into the "dangerous" category, but the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says that these are ALL nuisances, and with good reason.
