What are the ESPY Awards?

Every year, ESPN highlights the best of the best in the sports world. From the best athletes to the best moments and plays of the year, ESPN honors these achievements at its annual ESPY Awards Ceremony. The best part about it? Your vote matters! Categories are widespread, but include male, female, and disabled athletes at various professional and collegiate levels. Given that this is an Olympic year, multiple categories include several Gold medal performances from both male and female teams. Other categories include the top driver in autosport, the overall best team, and the best sports play of the year. One of the best parts of these awards is the categories for comeback athlete, breakthrough athlete, and the Jimmy V award. Indiana University clearly had a Cinderella football season, which has led to all the accolades that come with that. Fernando Mendoza makes his debut at the ESPY's in two categories. The Hoosier quarterback and Heisman winner is nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete and Best College Athlete - Men's Sports. The Indiana Hoosier football team is also nominated for the overall "Best Team" category, with some serious competition from the likes of two gold medal hockey teams and almost every professional champion from the year.
