Pickleball is the sport that has been taking over, and now the Evansville Police Department wants to challenge YOU to some friendly competition on the court.

I have always thought that pickleball is a funny-sounding sport. While actual pickles aren't involved in the game, it's actually a sport that combines two fairly common sports, ping pong and badminton. Here is how USAPickleball.org describes the sport:

Pickleball is a court sport played on a badminton-sized court with the net set to a height of 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic ball and composite or wooden paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles. It can be played indoors or outdoors and is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. In addition, the game has developed a passionate following due to its friendly, social nature, and its multi-generational appeal.

With the rise in popularity over the past few years, pickleball courts are all over the Evansville area. My family and I have played a few times, and I learned the hard way to "stay out of the kitchen." If you are one of those avid pickleball players, or even if you just dabble in the sport for fun every now and then, there's a really fun event coming up in Evansville where you can show off your skills and put some of our favorite Evansville Police Department officers to shame on the pickleball courts!

Pickleball with the Police

The Evansville Police Department is always doing some fun and awesome things throughout the community. You'll find members of the EPD at Coffee with a Cop, Movie Night at the Park, Walking Wednesdays, Cops Connecting with Kids events, 911 Gives Hope events, and more all throughout the year. However, this summer they will be taking part in a new event. Pickleball with the Police!

The Evansville Police Department invites community members to join officers for a fun, relaxed day of pickleball. It’s a great opportunity to play alongside (or against) officers, meet new people, and enjoy some friendly competition. It doesn't matter if you are an avid pickleball player or someone who has never even played before. Everyone is welcome, and there will even be paddles available to borrow if you don't have one of your own.

The first Pickleball with the Police event will be held on Saturday, April 25th at the CK Newsome Center here in Evansville. There will be three sessions to choose from (limited to 20 players per session) at the following times:
• 8:30 – 10:00 AM
• 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
• 12:30 – 2:00 PM

You can learn more and register for the event in the post below:
