Extensive flooding has swept through Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Henderson County, Kentucky has been especially hard hit.

Severe Weather Has Pushed the Ohio River Well Past Its Banks

Dozens of tornadoes have been confirmed across the region as a result of the storms that pummeled the area with winds and heay rains last week. The Ohio River, as well as the Green River have pushed well outside of their banks in many places as a result.

Some Residents Have Been Pushed Out of Their Homes

The rising waters have wreacked havoc covering roadways, filling fields, and pushing some residents our of their homes along both the Kentucky and Indiana sides of the river.

Ohio River Expected to Crest at Hightest Level Since 1945

According to Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart with WEHT, the Ohio River is expected to crest in neighboring Evansville, Indiana on Saturday night at 48 feet. This is well above the 42 foot flood stage, and will be the highest crest since March 1945.

Local Henderson resident, Ryan Powell recently sent up his drone and captured some incredible photographs of the flooding. Powell's photos, below show roads and fields swallowed by water and homes flooded.

Even Amid the Destruction of Flooding There Is Beauty to Be Found

Powell captured well-known landmarks like the swing bridge in Spotsville, and Ellis Park Race Track at the Indiana-Kentucky state line. Despite all of the destruction, some of the photos, like the ones of the train at sunset are stunningly beautiful.
