Henderson’s Sunset District Lets Visitors Sip and Stroll
Many Evansville residents are familiar with the city's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, better known as the DORA district. What you may not realize is that just across the Twin Bridges, downtown Henderson has its own version called the Sunset District.
The Sunset District allows visitors to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating businesses and enjoy them while exploring portions of downtown Henderson during approved events. Before you grab a drink and head out for a stroll, however, there are a few important rules to know.
What Is Henderson's Sunset District
The Sunset District is an entertainment district located in downtown Henderson where adults 21 and older can carry and consume alcoholic beverages purchased from participating businesses within designated boundaries during approved events. The district operates only during sanctioned events and designated hours established by the City of Henderson.
To participate, visitors must purchase their beverage from an approved vendor inside the district and receive both a city-approved cup and a Sunset District wristband.

Rules Visitors Need To Know
Unlike taking a drink from one bar to another under normal circumstances, the Sunset District has specific rules that must be followed.
Alcohol must be purchased from a participating licensed vendor within the district. Outside alcohol is not permitted, and beverages must remain in an approved Sunset District cup. Visitors must also wear the wristband provided at the time of purchase.
Drinks cannot be taken outside the designated district boundaries, and patrons are expected to remain on sidewalks and use designated crosswalks when crossing streets. Public intoxication, disorderly conduct, littering, and other violations of state and local laws remain prohibited.

When Can You Use The Sunset District
The district is only active during approved events. Event hours may run between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., with alcohol sales in approved Sunset District cups ending no later than 11 p.m. Visitors should check event details before heading downtown, as the district is not automatically active every day.
If you're planning a trip across the river for a festival, concert, or community event in downtown Henderson, understanding the Sunset District rules ahead of time can help ensure your visit goes smoothly.
