There are over 500 new laws that take effect on January 1, 2024, in the state of Illinois. Here are some of the things that will be banned next year.
New Illinois Laws in 2024
There are a total of 566 bills that Illinois Governor, J.B. Pritzker signed into law. Among Illinois' newest laws are some things that are banned.
Quite possibly the most notable ban in Illinois in 2023 was the assault weapons ban. Time is running out for those who currently own assault weapons on the banned list. You'll need to get an endorsement affidavit through your Firearm Owner’s Identification Card account before Jan. 1, 2024.

Here are Some of the Things Banned in Illinois in 2024
Videoconferencing
Not sure how you pulled this off behind the wheel before the ban but in 2024 you can no longer videoconference while driving.
HB 2431 – Videoconferencing while driving will now be banned in Illinois.
Hospital Billing Practices
In Illinois, hospitals can no longer send you to collections without a screening for financial assistance.
No More Buying Pets on Credit
No more credit extensions in Illinois in 2024 for the purchase of a dog or cat. All current contracts, transactions, and agreements will be null and void.
No More Drug Price Gouging
Illinois manufacturers and wholesale drug distributors are now banned from gouging us in the sale of essential off-patent and generic drugs
Leave Those Kids Alone
In 2024, Illinois residents under the age of 18 are banned from being charged a fee or fined unless it's a traffic ticket, municipal ordinance violation, or a boating or fishing violation.
