An urgent situation is unfolding at It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue - Daviess County after the recent intake of 51 cats and 6 dogs from a severe hoarding case. The shelter, now well beyond its capacity, is facing immense strain as it works to care for this sudden influx of animals. Shelter staff and volunteers are asking the community to step up if possible. Adoptions and fosters are desperately needed to relieve overcrowding and ensure these animals receive the care they deserve.

Best Friends Animal Society Steps In
In response to the crisis, Best Friends Animal Society, a nationally recognized nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of pets in shelters, has partnered with It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue, which assumed operation of the Daviess County shelter in April. They are working to find immediate placement for as many animals as possible. This is where you can step in to help make a difference.

Extended Hours
Recognizing that many in the community work during regular hours, the shelter is also extending its hours until 7 p.m. from Tuesday, June 24, through Friday, June 27th, 2025. This expanded schedule gives families additional opportunities to visit the shelter, meet the animals, or start the adoption or foster process.
