Cannonball! Coming to Holiday World in May — But the Real Splash Might Be From the Sidelines
Pardon the pun, but Holiday World - the beloved theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana - recently made a big splash when park officials unveiled plans for Cannonball! The water roller coaster will make its debut in May next year. As fun as the ride itself looks (it's going to be a huge hit), I am going out on a limb and calling it. I think the most popular thing about the new ride may not even be the ride itself.
Over the weekend, I had the chance to put on a Cannonball! hard hat and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the ongoing construction. Last week, the first parts of track were installed and I wanted to snag a couple of photos.
Holiday World VP Eric Snow is hopeful that the entire coaster will be constructed by the end of this year- well in advance of the ride's May grand opening.
Eric also pointed out something that I think could steal the show. Take a look at this!
See those eight pillars? They are situated near the part of the ride where the roller coaster splashes down and delivers its proverbial Cannonball!

That, my thrill-seeking friends, is going to be a viewing platform where you can get absolutely soaked by the roller coaster. Eric says you likely won't get wet on the actual ride, but you could potentially get water-logged on that platform.
Check out this still photograph from the POV video shared above. That water is going to engulf anyone standing on that platform.
Look. Summers in southern Indiana can be miserably hot and humid. That's why a lot of Holiday World fans spend much of their time inside Splashin' Safari. I have a hunch the new roller coaster's platform is going to be one of the most popular summer attractions of the dry park. If you are looking to cool off, that new water roller coaster is going to give you the chance to do it. Head on out there, brace for the waves, and get ready to scream, "Cannonball!"
