Wednesday night, I came home from a very long day to find that my sweet husband had cleaned up our overgrown flower bed in the front yard. Not gonna lie, I was planning on procrastinating for at least another week! To say I was relieved that he tackled that job is an understatement.

I also thought about how long the limbs and clippings were going to have to hang around in our yard waste cans before city limb pick up began again. They stop picking up limbs every fall when leaf season starts. Michael's timing was spot on because I just saw that the City of Owensboro Sanitation Department announced it's officially 'Limb Season' for curbside pick-up this year.

Guidelines For Curbside Limb & Yard Waste Pick-up

If Owensboro Sanitation picks up your garbage, you can place your limbs and yard waste out with your toter on your scheduled trash collection day. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Keep storm drains clear of debris
  • Limb piles must be accessible to drivers.
  • Leave plenty of clearance around and above your limbs.
  • Do not block with any parked vehicles.
  • If your yard waste is in a can, make sure it isn't too heavy for the sanitation workers to pick up. The website says a 30lb limit.
  • Limbs can be up to 30 feet in length but must be smaller than 6 inches in diameter to be collected; place "butt-ends" facing the street.
  • Loose yard waste (small trimmings, sticks and small shrubs) should be bagged, or placed in a separate can for collection.
  • No dirt of any kind can be collected; no root balls.
  • No contractor yard waste.

How to Drop-off Limbs & Yard Waste at Daviess County Transfer Station

You can also haul any yard waste to the Daviess County Transfer Station located at 2129 Grimes Ave. Drop-off is free as long as you do the following:

  • Show a current copy of your Sanitation bill from your OMU or Daviess County Water invoice.
  • Show a photo ID.
  • Secure your load with straps or tarps.

Hope you have a beautiful spring!

The Weirdest Street Names in Owensboro, KY

If I asked you to name the first Owensboro road you could think of, you'd probably say "Frederica St." While it certainly makes this list, it isn't the most head-scratching street name on the list.
