Owensboro Fire Department Shares Annual PSA For Winter Fire Safety
With Winter here and the Holiday season in full swing, there are many fire hazards this time of year. The Owensboro Fire Department is working hard to keep all of us safe and healthy. This includes sharing tips to avoid needing to call them for help in the first place. I love their annual PSA videos.
It's Wicked Important to Stay Safe From Fires
Last year, they shared this funny video inspired by the movie musical Wicked. I think it just makes sense to combine Defying Gravity and other lyrics from the musical with safety advice. "It's wicked important" to avoid fire incidents, which, of course, are no laughing matter.
If the video won't play, click here. I love that our local fire department has such a good sense of humor! Not gonna lie, their acting skills are pretty impressive too! This year, they've shared another public service announcement with important tips for fire safety this holiday and winter season.

Holiday Fire Safety Tips
- Keep oven mitts, towels, and anything flammable away from the stovetop.
- Turn pot handles inward, and maintain a three-foot safety zone around the stove when kids are nearby.
- Space heaters: turn them off when you leave the room, keep them clear of anything that can burn, and never plug them into an extension cord (always directly into the wall).
- Candles are great this time of year—just remember to blow them out before you leave or go to sleep.
- And don’t forget to check your smoke detector batteries.
