I'm always glad that my parents introduced us to museums early on. They fascinated me then; they fascinate me now. I love learning the history of any given location I'm visiting.

Some locales are obvious. Last summer we were in Gettysburg PA. As you can imagine, one of the most historic and historically significant towns in this country is replete with museums representing a variety of themes.

Some locales, however, are not obvious. So keep this page handy if you're motoring through Georgia this summer, or at any point, really. There are a couple of museums that are worth our attention, and their themes are "out of the box."

The Lunchbox Museum

I'm not sure if Columbus GA is on anyone's route if they're driving to Florida, so maybe make it a POINT of getting to the Redneck Riviera via the Peach State's third-largest city. I'm sure there's plenty to do AFTER your visit to this unique collection of childhood memories. (I love this idea.)

I'm THAT guy. I had the Six Million Dollar Man lunchbox, complete with the Thermos. (I understand, from collectors, that vintage lunch boxes--as antiques--have almost no value without them.) Yes, I would go out of my way to visit this place.

The Waffle House Museum

Since my hometown (Owensboro KY) has been without a Waffle House for more than a decade, I always visit one if my hunger coincides with that familiar yellow sign in the sky. Keep in mind, though, that if you visit the Waffle House Museum in Decatur GA, you'll need to fill out a request form on the museum's website. AS for the museum, you'll learn the history of the very first one which opened in 1955 in Avondale Estates GA in 1955. You'll also learn about the founders and the various Waffle House trademarks.

Oh, y'all, look at that...a Waffle House food truck. Be still my heart.

And then I be you'll be hungry for--oh, I don't know--maybe a little scattered, smothered, covered, and chunked?

Going out on a limb, here. 😉
