This time of year, animal rescues all over town see an explosion of kittens.  I even have a friend of mine who is a magnet for abandoned kittens nursing them to health and finding them homes.  Amanda actually found our sweet Swayze kitty back in 2011.  The poor thing was in the gutter on the side of the street lost from his mama way too soon. I couldn't resist his baby snuggles.  I'm so glad we were able to take him in. He is an ornery ole escape artist but still loves a snuggle. I can't imagine life without him!

It makes me so sad to think about all the babies big and teeny in the shelters waiting for kind souls to take them in. Especially when this overpopulation of cats is totally preventable!  A local organization is working hard to provide affordable services to keep cats from producing unwanted litters.  No matter how cute they are, our shelters just cannot take care of them all.

Spay-A-Stray Owensboro and Daviess County Animal Control provide low-cost spay and neutering procedures for dogs and cats.  It is easier than ever to make sure your pet does not become a parent.

The cost for male cats is $40 and the cost for female cats is $60; both include a rabies vaccination. This is a GREAT deal!

If you happen to find or trap a stray and feel led to be a Good Samaritan, a spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, and ear clipping are only $30.  The ear clipping lets animal control folks know that the cat has already been "fixed" if it is ever found again.

If you are interested, call my friend Janie Robinson at 270-925-1720 for availability and to make an appointment.

Please help me spread the word and encourage cat owners you know to take advantage of this program.  Our local shelters are all at capacity in terms of space, volunteers, and funds.  We can do our part to help Owensboro furry friends and those like Amanda and Janie who dedicate their lives to saving these precious babies.
