Could You Lift A 35-pound Beer Mug In One Hand?
The 35-Pound Beer Mug Taking Over Social Media
Have you seen the heavy weighted beer mug challenge all over social media? Because my 'For You Page' has been absolutely flooded with it — and for some reason, it’s mostly grown men confidently stepping up like, “Yeah… I can handle that.” Spoiler alert: many of them cannot.
At first, I wasn’t sure why I kept seeing it. Maybe my algorithm remembers that I used to live in Missouri not far at all from where this is happening — but after video after video, I realized this trend is too wild NOT to talk about. And now I have questions… mainly: have you seen this, and would you try it?
Where Is This Happening?
The challenge is going down at North Town Tavern, in Fredericktown Missouri and it’s quickly become a must-try (or must-watch) moment for anyone passing through town.
People are traveling just to give it a shot or at least to film their friends attempting it.
What’s the Challenge?
On paper, it sounds simple: pick up a mug of beer and chug it.
In reality? That mug weighs 35 pounds with the beer in it, and the rules are designed to make it absolutely brutal:
- ❌ You can’t use two hands
- ❌ You can’t use a straw
- ❌ You can’t spill a drop on the bar
- ❌ You must hold it by the handle
- ❌ You can’t set it back down until you finish
Once that mug leaves the bar, it’s all or nothing. No breaks. No do-overs.
What Do You Win?
If you somehow manage to pull it off, you don’t just walk away sore — you walk away a winner.
Successful challengers get:
- A $25 gift card
- A spot on the downtown billboard
- And the ultimate bragging rights of knowing you lifted and drank from a 35-pound beer mug
Honestly? That last one might be the real prize.
Why We Can’t Stop Watching
The videos are equal parts impressive and hilarious. You’ve got guys shaking within seconds, others realizing halfway through they’ve made a terrible life choice, and a rare few who somehow make it look easy.
It’s the confidence walking in versus the reality two seconds later that makes this trend so entertaining.
Now, What About You?
Now I want to hear from you. And women listen up, you're going to get the chance to try this too! North Town Tavern posted on their Facebook Page today that they were going to have a mug challenge for women coming up in the future.
Would you try the 35-pound beer mug challenge?
Or are you perfectly content watching other people test their strength — and pride — for internet fame?
Either way, this might be one of the most entertaining bar challenges the internet has given us in a while.
