KENTUCKY GOP-PERRY

Texas Gov. Perry throws support behind McConnell

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — When Texas Gov. Rick Perry comes to Kentucky, people like to remind him of Jim Bowie, the Kentucky native who died at the Alamo during the Texas Revolution.

Perry told a crowd of about 300 Republicans at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner of West Kentucky on Saturday night that Bowie was willing to give up everything for freedom. He says he hopes there are a new generation of young men and women that are willing to give up everything to change Kentucky.

One thing Perry does not want to change: Kentucky's senior U.S. senator. Perry endorsed Sen. Mitch McConnell, telling the crowd that the Senate minority leader would win re-election.

McConnell is in a primary fight with wealthy businessman Matt Bevin.

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — Crittenden County school officials say they expect the use of a propane-powered bus to save thousands of dollars a year.

According to WPSD-TV, the school district has been running the bus for the last six months.

The standard diesel bus averages 6.82 miles per gallon while the propane bus averages 4.63 miles per gallon, but it is costing less to fill up. It cost the district $0.55 a mile to run the diesel engine school bus, while the propane-powered bus only costs $0.22 a mile.

District Superintendent Rachel Yarbrough says there's a possible savings of more than $5,000 a year.
