Marilyn Monroe’s ‘Seven Year Itch’ Dress Sells for $5.6 Million
Fifty-six years later, Marilyn Monroe is still worth a lot of money – $5.6 million, to be exact.
According to CNN, Monroe’s iconic dress from the 1955 Billy Wilder movie ‘The Seven Year Itch’ sold for that amount Saturday night at an auction in Beverly Hills, California.
The dress was put up for auction by none other than Debbie Reynolds, a lifetime collector of thousands of Hollywood costumes. According to the report, Reynolds had hoped to open a museum with her collections, but taking care of them had become a financial burden.
Reynolds was reportedly moved to tears when the dress sold for $4.6 million. The buyer will reportedly pay an additional $1 million in commission fees.
