Candace and Derek Miller have a fun Halloween tradition with their kids. The whole family gathers around and carves pumpkins for the front porch. Over the weekend, the family got together again at their McLean County, Kentucky home and whipped up some spooky and kooky Halloween magic.

As you can see, there are definitely some pseudo-traditional Jack-O-Lantern designs. And, some other members of the family think way outside the box. For instance, check out the pumpkin at the top left of the photo below.

That's an excellent representation of Ghostface from the Scream franchise. According to Candace, Derek usually gets a really large pumpkin to carve that face into. This year though, their daughter-in-law Mollie got the honors and she added the "pig nose" flair.

Candace says she and Derek have "always carved with our kids." She also admits that the carving gets a little competitive.  I have to say.  You can tell the family has had lots of practice. Candace says the kids have been carving pumpkins since they were toddlers. It definitely shows!

This year, just about the entire Miller clan was on hand for the annual carving event. Derek, Candace and their kids Jacob, Matthew, Sarah and Anna were there. Plus, they are able to invite any of their friends who want to come by and help. Their son Matthew couldn’t join the family this year because he's away at college. However, he requested "the hand" so Candace carved that on his behalf in his absence.  And, well, look at it!

For me, that hand is incredible and the real star of this show. For the record, Candace didn't ask me to say that. LOL!

Candace says the family spent hours working on the pumpkins and there's no doubt all that hard work and innovation pay off each and every year.  Each family member does his/her best to come up with most creative and fun design possible and they carve for bragging rights in the family.

In addition to some friendly competition, there's food too! Candace always cooks something for the big party. This year, she served up chili and crescent dogs.  And, like they always do, they family served up an amazing collection of pumpkins for the front porch.
