NIck the Intern here and I am pleased to announce that the wait is finally over. The brand new Malco Theatre is now open on Gateway Commons on Highway 54.

Malco has been in Owensboro for the past 82 years, and has shown some of the best films ever made.

I don't know about you, but I'm a huge movie fan. I can't wait to see all of this year's summer blockbusters at the new location. In 2002, I saw my first ever movie, "Monsters Inc.", at three years old.  Since then, I have paid many trips to the movies. This year I've seen great films like "Us", "Booksmart", "Rocketman", and "Avenger's Endgame". I can't wait for what this incredible year in cinema has in store for us next.

The much-anticipated theatre will include the freshly launched Malco-branded large format MXT Extreme Theatre.

MXT will include premium leather seats with a 72-foot screen, 4K laser projection, and Dolby ATMOS sound. Its 300-seat capacity makes it the largest MXT on the Malco circuit.

According to Karen Melton, the Director of Marketing for Malco, it's not just the venue that's improving, but the food selection too. "We are adding a gourmet grill menu." Melton said, "We will have your traditional movie snacks, but we will also be stepping it up three notches." The new menu will feature hand-crafted pizza, delicious cheeseburgers, and other new dishes made fresh. If the gourmet grill isn't enough, the new location has a bar. Wine, beer, and cocktails will be served! You can even arrive early and enjoy their outdoor seating and patio.

The theatre will feature fourteen screens. Thirteen will be equipped with luxury recliner seats, and the fourteenth, the MXT, will feature premium leather seats.

The opening has come right in the heart of summer blockbuster season. New releases for all ages will soon be heading to Owensboro beginning as soon as tonight when the newest installment of Disney Pixar's "Toy Story" saga hits the screen. That as well as the newest Chucky slasher film "Child's Play", and crime thriller "Anna" will open the theatre tomorrow night.

Also coming to Malco this summer, the much anticipated live action "Lion King" film hitting theaters July 19th. Quentin Tarantino's newest film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" starring Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Al Pacino will debut July 26th.

In a year where it seems every major movie maker has a potential new classic on the way, Owensboro has a new a home to bring them to life.
