One Kentucky Mom Created The Most Epic American Girl Dollhouse You’ve Ever Seen

One Kentucky mom spent her spring break building the playroom of all playrooms for her daughters.  They wanted an American Girl Doll House and she provided in a might way.

WHAT ARE AMERICAN GIRL DOLLS?

If you have a little girl you most likely already know about American Girl Dolls.  Angel here and my daughter, Charlotte, has been obsessed with AG dolls since she could walk.  Her Aunt Wisi (Lisa Aull) took her shopping for her very first one at the age of 3.  She came out of the store in Nashville with more stuff than her little arms could carry.

These dolls are actually pretty fascinating.  You can walk into a store with our daughter and come out with a doll that looks nearly just like her.  I think most little girls like the experience of going to adopt a doll.

Each member of this sweet and silly group of friends has a vinyl/plastic body with hair that can be brushed and styled. Their unique personalities come to life through outfits, accessories, and play sets that offer days of active play and imagination.

 

You can even go online and create your own American Girl Doll.  There are tons of videos on YouTube of little girls who take you on AGD adventures.  My Charlotte loves watching them.

 HOW MUCH IS AN AMERICAN GIRL DOLL?

The average American Girl Doll without accessories or anything is around $100.  They have Wellie Wishers and Bitty Babies for less.  The best way to describe an American Girl Doll experience is like new car shopping for an adult.  You have to pick what you want your car to have and look like and the same goes for your doll.

Little girls can even get outfits to match their dolls.  They also have doll playsets and furniture.  Some of these sets cost as much as the furniture and items you would pay for your own house (I'm not joking).

As moms, we have to learn to pinch pennies and save a buck here and there.  We found a mom here in Owensboro who designed an entire room for her girl's dolls and their accessories and we are in complete amazement.

DESIGNING AN AT HOME AMERICAN GIRL DOLL ROOM

Melody Hayden says she was frustrated with the space her daughter's American girl doll stuff was taking up in her house.  She says "I got frustrated about Emma being sick, and I felt like I just did not have time to get my home together."

She decided Spring Break was the time to tackle the task and get her life and home back together.  Here's what she told me:

Pretend play is so important and I want the girls to have an outlet, but I could not afford what I wanted so I had to think outside the box. It was a couple of thousand to build something and I wanted to do it myself. I started looking everywhere and I found Ipex shelving from IKEA, but it was 70.00 plus and shipping was several one hundred dollars. I went all over town, looked on the internet, and low and behold Walmart had shelves for 39.00. Travis and I built the shelves and then tuned the shelves on their side. I then started looking at contact paper for wallpaper and flooring. Walmart and dollar general had the best contact paper for around 3.00-6.00 a piece I used contact paper that looked like wood flooring. Then I found contact paper that matched each American girl dolls style. I have purchased four Walmart shelves and I have spent 160.00 total and around 40.00 on contact paper, so making a total of 200.00. I then found under-mount lighting at Gabe's so the girls could have lights in their dollhouse. It has been a fun project. I am working on an American girl doll stable next for the girls.
