Online Security – Passwords That Should Not Be Used

Online security shouldn't be a pet project (see what I did there?).  A lot of people use their pets name for their passwords and things on the internet.  According to Google, your pet's name is the absolute worst choice of password.  A recent study looked at how people come up with their passwords.  Whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo etc.  The mojority use words based on readily available information.  Basically, whatever you see in front of you is what your passwords become.  That makes it very easy for people like the guy in the picture to get in and change your relationship status to "Its Complicated."

Things not to do with your passwords include (but not limited to). Leaving your passwords and usernames on a piece of paper that lays stationary on your computer table.  Or having a file folder full of all the info someone could use to get into your social media sites.  Dont do this type of stuff and if your password resembles any of the descriptions that follow, go and change them immediately.

1. Pet Names

2. A notable date such as a wedding anniversary or the day you bought Fido

3. A family member's birthday

4. Your child's name

5. Another family member's name

6. Your birthplace

7. A favorite holiday ( Chrismahannaquanzaacah might work )

8. Something related to your favorite sports team

9. The name of your Husband, Wife, Girlfriend or Boyfriend

10. The word "Password"

The last one should be more toward the top I believe.  Using this is very easy to type in and the brain triggers itself to think that no one is that clever.  Actually this is one of the passwords that hackers look for and try out right at the beginning.
