It was a beautiful day for World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans in Owensboro today. The energy was electric as they boarded the bus for this trip of a lifetime.

It was such a blessing to be a part of something so monumental for these brave men, that have served our country. Veterans will board a plane in Louisville, and then head to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials. They will honor those who lost their lives serving our great country. They will remember fellow U.S. veterans and military members that sacrificed so much. We are indeed the "Land of the Free.....Because of the Brave". Brave men like these veterans, who we honored today.

You can watch the entire ceremony and the Owensboro Honor Flight send-off in the video below.

On Thursday morning, it will be time to line the streets of Owensboro, for their return back home. As they drive by, be sure to honk, wave, say thank you and cheer loudly! This will be the route that they'll take as they make their way to the Owensboro National Guard Armory.

The veterans, and their police escort, will head over the William H. Natcher Bridge around 10:30 on Thursday morning, (October 17th, 2019) to make their way back to town. Then they'll travel down Hwy 60,  turn on to 2nd St. and then come down Frederica St. They should be driving by WBKR around 11AM. They will continue on, until they turn on to Tamarack Rd. and head straight to the armory.

There are many places to greet these veterans on Thursday, as you can see. You can always come to WBKR and cheer with us. We'd love to have you!

I got to meet and interview so many beautiful souls today at the Owensboro Sportscenter. We had a chance to talk before they boarded the bus.

WWII Veteran, Henry Breithaupt, is the sweetest man ever. He's so excited to visit the WWII Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery for the very first time ever.

91-year-old, WWII Veteran, Jim Etheridge has never seen the Korean War Veterans Memorial, so he's very happy to get that chance. Jim is a character and I enjoyed our time together so much.

Vietnam Veteran, Paul Greer Bennett, was finally healthy enough to take this trip. He just wants to soak it all in. I've known Mr. Bennett for years, and he's very deserving of this opportunity.

Vietnam Veteran, Robert Sidney Hayden, has been waiting to embark on this adventure for a very long time. It will be a special moment when he has the chance to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial tomorrow.

Moments ago, they arrived in Louisville ready for the next phase of the trip!

Here's video of the Owensboro Honor Flight send-off from earlier today. We pray for their safety, their health, and that they have a memorable trip.
