Owensboro Tornado Siren Knocked Down in Traffic Accident [Photos]
Residents on the west side of Owensboro are one tornado siren short this afternoon. There was a traffic accident last night on Lee Rudy Road and, according to residents in the area, a car crashed into the pole that housed it.
According to various residents of Graystone Estates, including Charlie Johnson, the pole was by hit by an eastbound car, which was subsequently towed away with the assistance of law enforcement. The pole (below) sits just west of Crosspointe Baptist Church.
As you can see from the photo below, there was significant impact from the moving vehicle.
While the car hit the pole near street level, the pole snapped up top causing the siren to fall to the ground . . .
The damaged tornado siren serves Graystone Estates and surrounding areas on the west side of town, including Audubon Elementary School. As of the publication of this story, the siren remains disabled at the crash site.
We've reached out to local law enforcement for additional details about the incident and the condition of the driver involved. We will pass that information along as soon as we have it.
