At a Thursday afternoon Daviess County Public Schools board meeting, it was announced that there will be a new Daviess County Middle School.

The all-new Daviess County Middle School, expected to be completed by August 2021, will be built immediately east of Gateway Commons on what will be an extension of Fairview Drive.

After a 14-month-long process, the location, near Highland Elementary School, was finally chosen for a 900-student middle school that will replace the historic old Daviess County Middle School which has been educating students (myself included) for nearly 100 years.

At one time, the old building was Daviess County HIGH School.

There are plans for a driveway from the Hayden Road/Highway 603 intersection to be constructed.

This will, admittedly, feel very strange when, three school years from now, the old Daviess County Middle School on East 4th Street will not be welcoming new students.

But this is an exciting development and, as Superintendent Matt Robbins said at the beginning of the meeting, this will have a positive impact on Daviess County for generations to come.
