Prep work has already begun for the widening of a section of Highway 56/81from Airport Road to the roundabout.

This will come as good news, not only to motorists but to those businesses just past the bypass that are right there in that weird section of the highway that shrinks to two lanes right past the traffic light.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says that crews will begin by relocating water and sewer lines along the project area.

And then motorists should watch for flaggers who will be onsite to direct traffic as the project will necessitate a reduction to one lane.

The target completion date for the $2.8 million project has not been determined.
