Real-Life Snoopy Up for Adoption at It Takes a Village Canine Rescue!
This Christmas, my family and I decided we wanted to give back. So, we found some places to volunteer and we have also opened up our home to a homeless guest. Now, before you think I'm all saintly, this houseguest stands at about 3 feet tall and is black and white. His name is Dexter and he's an English Pointer mix from It Takes a Village Canine Rescue.
I went in because I knew I wanted to foster and after walking through the kennels, I knew this guy needed some extra attention. He has had a rough go of it. He's thin, and has terrible ear infections that has caused some deafness. Although, in the short time he's been at my house, his hearing has improved dramatically with medication.
Dexter has been passed over at the shelter for a while because he's considered an elderly dog. But, Dexter is a GREAT dog. I mean, he doesn't bark, bite, lick, chase cats, mess in the house, and is fine with other dogs and kids. He is quiet and reserved but also LOVES to cuddle. I mean, he's a cuddle monster.
The best part is, he looks just like SNOOPY! I'm a huge Peanuts fan; so much that I have Snoopy prints all over my kitchen. It's a thing with me. So, when I saw this mostly white mutt with black ears and black dot on his butt, I was pretty much in love.
So, you might be thinking, 'why don't you keep him?' I have a small dog with kidney failure and he's not in the best health. I know he won't be with me much longer and I want to devote my time and attention to him. He's been my best friend for 14 years and I want him to feel totally loved until the end.
Dexter would make a great addition to any family with any size home. He's incredibly lazy and doesn't tear things up. So you can work full time with the peace of mind that he's at home snoozing and snoring. He does need a fenced in yard or electric fence because he does like to get foot-loose and fancy free! He's very smart and has already learned hand signals here at my house, as well as manners and rules. He's not a rebel; he will follow whatever rules you set.
So, won't you give this little Snoopy look-a-like a home for Christmas?
