There’s Still Time to Sign Up for the Run for Foxy Roxie 5K in Owensboro
The start of June is right around the corner and that means a popular event here in Owensboro is just over a week away. The 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk for Foxy Roxie is coming up on Saturday, June 4th at Moreland Park here in town.
In case you're unfamiliar with Roxie's story, here's what happened and how her story inspired this event.
Roxie was just 13-years-old when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Shortly after that diagnosis, she had an extensive surgery to remove the tumor. However, there were surgical complications and Roxie never woke up or recovered from that procedure. She passed away, so tragically, in late 2019.
Since that time, Roxie's mom Cathy and the rest of the Pickrell family have stayed committed to keeping Roxie's memory and spirit alive and, thus, in 2021, the inaugural 5K Run/Walk for Foxy Roxie was launched. And, attendance at the first event exceeded Cathy's expectations.
We're pleased to report that, for the second consecutive year, those expectations continue to be met! Registration for the 2022 race is already well over one hundred participants and that number continues to grow. As a matter of fact, registrations are still ongoing and you have plenty of time to join in the festivities.

Proceeds from this year's 5K Run/Walk for Foxy Roxie will be donated to Lighthouse Recovery Services in Owensboro, an organization Cathy happens to serve on the Board of Directors for.
