Reliable sources tell me that Riverpark Center is set to announce that the Million Dollar Match campaign is a success. The mission was to raise $1 million dollars by the end of August and the City of Owensboro and Daviess County Fiscal Court would then "match" the amount to pay off the more than 20yr. old debt on the building.

Sources tell me the amount raised was well over the million dollar mark. This shows the willingness on the part of the citizens of our region to support the arts community.

I am happy to see not only the debt erased but the cooperation between the two governing bodies in our community on this project. I hope it is not a one time thing and that the city and county can continue to work together to improve our community.

In the last week County Judge Al Mattingly worked with the Ohio County Fiscal Court to  help bring in coal severance money for the much needed expansion of the Airport Terminal. Again this is an example of regional communities working together for the betterment of all.

Riverpark Center has already given us so many good times. Friday After 5, Proms, The Broadway Series, Local dance and music events, Sesame Street, Comedy and educational programs one has to wonder what the future will bring.

This community has given Riverpark a new lease on life. No debt, we have been told, will mean more funds for additional programming and expanded use of the facility. In the next few months I will be waiting to hear more about the future. I look for great stuff.

Now Riverpark Board of Directors and Management  show us what you can do when you don't have a mortgage to worry about.  I wanna see the BIG WOW and I wanna see it now.
