Keith Lawrence wrote this morning in the Messenger Inquirer about the school systems in Owensboro and the surrounding areas. The snow and ice dumped down on us yet again in the Tristate, leaving behind dangerous driving conditions and more and more frustration in the resident's day.  It is vital today that you keep your distance and stay at a slower limit that what is posted, it is very slippery and windy this Monday.

David Johnson, the assistant superintendent for pupil personnel, transportation and maintenance for Owensboro Schools said last week that "We've missed more days this year than we've missed in the last 20 years.

Kyle Estes, superintendent of Hancock County Public Schools says, "It is important that if you err, you err on the side of caution."

Lora Wimsatt, public information officer for Daviess County Public Schools says, "We depend on professionals at the National Weather Service to provide the best possible forecasts about conditions and base our decisions on that information."  Sporting events were also effected by the snow and ice in the past weeks, forcing cancellations, Wimsatt also stating, "Our priority is always safety, High winds are certainly one of the factors we consider.  The Feb. 20 games all involved highway travel for school buses transporting teams and decisions were made that afternoon to cancel those evening games for the safety of the students involved.
