Ryan Newman ‘Awake and Speaking’ Following Horrific Daytona 500 Crash
Denny Hamlin won the 62nd running of the Daytona 500, but the biggest news from the big race has been the progress of Ryan Newman following a frightening accident near the finish line.
Well, the news is good.
CBS is reporting, via a statement from Roush Fenway Racing, that Newman is awake and speaking:
Toward the end of the race Monday, Newman was ahead of the pack when he got bumped by Ryan Blaney, sending him airborne before finally landing upside down.
It was a horrifying moment, reminiscent of the wreck that claimed Dale Earnhardt's life 19 years ago during the 2001 Daytona 500.
No word yet on the nature of Newman's injuries.
