From the website of the Country Music Hall of Fame, we have learned Gordon Stoker, tenor singer for Country Music Hall of Fame vocal group the Jordanaires, died this morning at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Gordon was 88.

"He was a native of Gleason, Tennessee, where he grew up in a musical family. By age eight he was playing piano in church, and he soon played at singing conventions in western Tennessee and Kentucky".

When you hear the high tenor voice on early Elvis Presley songs, that was Gordon Stoker.

I had the pleasure of working with his son, Brent, at WSM in the early 90's.

My condolences to Brent and the Stoker family.
