Six Sports Cars Stolen from One Kentucky Dealership’s Showroom [VIDEO]
Having worked with a lot of auto dealerships over the years, I was stunned to see what went down at one in Somerset KY early Tuesday morning.
Six Dodge Challenger Hellcats Stolen Off a Showroom Floor
It happened around 2 AM on the morning of February 28th and has thrown Don Franklin Chrysler and the small Kentucky city it calls home for a loop. Apparently, the unknown individuals in question broke into the showroom and drove six Dodge Challenger Hellcats right out of the building and off the lot.
Four of the Six Stolen Hellcats Have Been Located
You might think it would be difficult to be inconspicuous driving around a town of just under 12,000, and you'd be largely correct...sort of. LEX 18-Lexington spoke to general manager Adam Bryant who confirmed that, as of Tuesday afternoon, four of the six vehicles had been located. Unfortunately, one of them is totaled. Also, a fifth vehicle has been tracked down in Alabama, thanks to GPS, but it has yet to be collected, as of this writing.
Security Video Shows Somerset Dealership Theft in Progress
You can't see everyone involved here, but this is security video from the break-in:
Bryant also said that once the perpetrators broke in, it wasn't hard to steal the cars. Since they were inside the showroom, they were all unlocked and the keys were inside each one.
Additionally, a few of the stolen vehicles were already sold and just waiting for their new owners to pick them up.
Each one of those Dodge Challenger Hellcats is worth nearly $100,000, so that's more than half a million dollars worth of vehicles that were taken. Somerset police have not confirmed whether or not anyone involved in the theft is in custody.
